On the Gibson Les Paul Deluxe built between 1968 and late 1976, the body is of type "sandwich", composed of two thicknesses of mahogany, interspersed with a maple leaf, construction more economical than the monobloc cases. According to Gibson, this also provides more sustain.
The body is hollowed out in certain places to lighten the guitar and strengthen the sustain.
From 1977, the other items of the production have a one-piece mahogany body. The Gibson copies from this period, reproduced by Ibanez, were of high quality.
That’s how the model 2393 Custom came out with this type of body.
I do not explain why this single exemple is built with a monobloc body, and moreover it is lighter than the "sandwitch body" models. It’s the only one I’ve ever seen.
